THE POSITION
The City of Ruidoso Downs is seeking a well qualified and dynamic individual
to serve as Curator of Education for the renowned Hubbard Museum of the
American West. The Curator of Education is responsible for the coordination
and development of all curriculum based educational programs for schools,
including grammar, middle, high school, and university based students.
Responsible for all outreach programming efforts going directly to schools,
including such activities as traveling trunks, classroom instruction, etc.
Coordinates all interpretive events, including live demonstrations, living
history events, and the family & educational programs at the Lincoln County
Cowboy Symposium.
THE MUSEUM
Founded in 1989 the Hubbard Museum is viewed as an unsurpassed educational
and entertainment center, reflecting the cultural heritage of the horse and
the American West. The Museum, Cowboy symposium attract over 100,000
visitors each year, and the 55,000 sq. ft. Museum of the Horse displays one
of the worlds largest equine sculptures "Free Spirits at Noisy Water" by

RESPONSIBILITIES
The specific duties of the Curator of Education may include but are not
limited to:
Serves as the coordinator of an education committee consisting of educators,
museum staff, and others as needed.
Responsible for the development and coordination of all in-house exhibit
related programming efforts and events. Serves as a member of the exhibit
team to assist in the coordination and development of exhibits. Assists
with the development of label copy, interpretive text, or other exhibit
fabrication as assigned. Assists the Curator of Exhibits with the annual
Henriette Wyeth Memorial Exhibit.
Responsible for the ongoing development and coordination of activities for
the children's interactive areas within the Museum. Seeks to ensure that
equipment is in proper repair and coordinates purchasing activities for the
upkeep of these areas.
Acts as volunteer coordinator for museum docents, and provided quarterly
docent training for museum activities. Provides training, and assists with
the recruitment and leadership development activities for the volunteer
program. Works closely with the Administrative secretary in coordinating
and scheduling museum volunteers and docent groups for tour groups.
Assists the Fundraising & Special Events Coordinator in the research and
development of grants for the education department. Assists with other
fundraising activities and events as needed.
Performs other related duties as needed or assigned by the Museum Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of and experience in:
Principles, practices, and techniques of museum management.
Personnel management, employee relations, team building, goal setting, long
and short term planning, budget development, and financial management.
Minimum of three years working in Museum Education or related field. A
Master's Degree in related field is highly desirable. BA/BS degree in
related field may be substituted for one year experience.
BASE SALARY
