I would also be interested in any responses to this AND any other
family-friendly activities/programs within museums and cultural centers.
Thanks!

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] using explore cabinets
Hello all--
I'm working with a client who's interesting in creating the kind of
open drawer and explore cabinets (for lack of a better term) that are
now used in many museums--they seem to be primarily conceived for
younger audiences. In my own brief observations, however, it seems
that often, once drawers are opened, the learning happens most
effectively when either a parent or a museum staff member is there to
guide the learning. When left unmediated, I wonder if they are
really places for learning, or just places for opening drawers.
I'm hoping that those of you who have such installations in your museum
can share your perspectives with me--I'd be particularly interested in
any formative or summative evaluations that have taken place on these
types of exhibits.
Thanks for the help,
Linda Norris
