Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can suggest historic sites for an assignment.
I teach a class called Urbanism which is encyclopedic. Many students have
trouble relating to ancient sites and their issues. I've decided to give
them an assignment in which they have to debate the value of maintaining an
ancient site versus meeting contemporary needs. I'd prefer the debates be
recent, for example, something about the Aswan Dam would not be
approrpriate.
I was thinking the development of the Athens subway for the Olympics,
drilling for natural gas or preserving the sites in the American southwest,
problems of tourism, etc.
Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.
