With intelligent design, you have a "designor"
intervening at various times to push things in a
certain direction. The Church's position is that God
created the universe and let it go. They don't really
care how the physical forms of the universe developed.
As long as scientists stay out of the nature of the
soul, the Church is content to stay out of the nature
of the body.
