Art21, Inc. a non-profit contemporary art organization seeks a dynamic,
highly motivated, and exceptionally creative Director of Education to
oversee local, national and increasingly international educational
initiatives related to the PBS series "Art:21‹Art in the Twenty-First
Century" as well as additional Art21, Inc. projects and artist initiatives.
Art21 education initiatives provide opportunities for a wide range of
educators and students to broaden and deepen their appreciation of
contemporary visual art and artists. The Director of Education develops,
manages and implements all aspects of producing educational materials and
programming affiliated with Art21 Inc. productions and works closely with an
extensive network of national and international organizational partners and
educators. Educational resources include seasonal Educators' Guides, Web
content, and related ancillary materials such as magazine features, slide
and digital images. In addition, the Director of Education works with
individuals, schools, school districts, museums and community-based
organizations to plan, support, and facilitate professional development
workshops, presentations, and participation in state and national
conferences. Supplementary special projects such as long-term partnerships
with interested organizations build models for programmatic depth that
complement Art21's national and international reach. This position is
full-time with room for growth and will be best filled by a candidate with
outstanding writing skills, who is self-motivated, and has experience
collaborating with diverse partners and institutions.
Qualifications:
* An MA degree with at least 5 years of experience in the field of arts and
education, including significant supervisory/program coordination
experience;
* Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary visual art and artists;
* Knowledge of the national art education field including NYC public schools
and school district administration as well as museum and community-based
education;
* Ability to think outside the box - demonstration of innovative thinking
and implementation of educational programming;
* Self-starter and team player;
* Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills including
outstanding writing skills;
Interest in and comfort with public speaking;
* Mac-based proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel as well as knowledge of
Filemaker Pro, and graphic software (InDesign, Adobe Acrobat).
