The Palm Springs Art Museum had an exhibition based on the Brooklyn Museum
of Arts' which was very successful. The artwork was exhibited with only
tombstone information and the public was given the opportunity to write
their own label. This could cover anything they wanted - their experiences,
thoughts, feelings, what they thought the artwork meant, what they thought
about what other people said, whatever. The labels where then typed and
displayed next to the artwork with as many as 6 other labels (depending on
length). The labels where rotated as new where produced. The old labels
where then stored in binders in the exhibition for people to read if they
wanted. If you’re interested in more information you could contact the
curator in charge of that show: Sidney Williams (760-325-7186).
Best of luck,
