For many years, the Milwaukee Public Museum has had a Peace Tree Ceremony. We have a small tree brought into our atrium and we work with a middle school in the area to make clay bell (with no clapper) for each person who died a violent death that year in our city. An alderman discusses MLK's vision, we have two student essays or poems read by the winners, and a police officer reads each homicide victim's name. Many of the family members are in attendence and they can take the bells home after the ceremony. Its a very powerful event for all in attendance.

Subject: MLK Day
Greetings,
I know that it is not quite yet here, but we are getting a jump start on
planning events/activities for Martin Luther King Day. In the past, we have
offered a looping video of an oral history project conducted by the museum,
as well as a planetarium show focusing on King's life and legacy (the show was
not well attended, and we won't be running it again this year).
I am looking for easy and affordable activities to do on MLK Day...any
suggestions?
Thanks for you help!
