But Timothy -- this is more than whether Tufani can sell on the

I guess then it becomes an issue of what constitutes a "museum-related
topic;" specifically, is a private individual advertising the sale of
his artwork considered to be "museum related?"
Although the Museum-L FAQ doesn't explicitly prohibit commercial
postings, many other discussion boards do (such as the previously
referenced History News Network; see
http://hnn.us/articles/982.html#civil). Common netiquette (a concept
that should be familiar to anyone who's "worked cyberspace" for any
length of time) dictates that a discussion group user should be familiar
with the tone of the group he/she posts to, and post appropriately.
Judging from reactions, it seems clear that the majority of this
community does not condone advertising on this list.
