Your question is pretty broad and the answer really depends on what your
needs are..how large is your collection? how large is your staff? what
type of material do you collect? how do you need to access the information
you collect? who needs to access it? how automated is your collections
accessioning/cataloguing process? do you loan heavily? borrow heavily?
have a conservator (preparator, curator, director, etc.) on staff who
needs to access the database?
Perhaps the best place to learn about the variety of collections
management software available today is to visit the Canadian Heritage
Information Network website.
http://www.chin.gc.ca/
Here you'll find a wealth of information on selecting and reviewing
software. Look for the Collections Management button.
