We have chosen to use UPS to ship individual works of art
internationally because they are the only shippers we have found
(besides pricey art handlers) who will insure for the actual amount.
We have shipped items to and from Israel using UPS. However I should
caution you that we are now having a problem I am trying to resolve
which you should be wary of and do some investigating to avoid. We
were partnering with an arts agency in Israel for an exhibit and
asked them to ship a painting back to the artist in Kenya when the
exhibit was over. We insured the work for $4000. Now the painting is
stuck in customs in Kenya and they want the artist to pay $1500
customs fee to clear it because of the declared value. I am hoping a
letter to UPS in Kenya explaining that the painting belongs to the
recipient and was a simply on loan will resolve this but we are still
in the middle of this problem and we are unsure how it will end. So I
advise you to talk to the shippers on both ends to see how to avoid
this.
Good Luck,
Shari Davis
