Adrienne,
Here is a pretty comprehensive source for the conservation of baskets
and other artifacts made from plant materials.
I would only recommend the re-housing and light cleaning and nothing
else be done without an expert assessment by a trained conservator.
The book is:
"The Conservation of Artifacts Made from Plant Materials" Mary Lou
Florian, Dale Paul Knonkright, Ruth E. Norton (1990, The J. Paul Getty
Trust).
ISBN 0-89236-160-3
Cheers!
