The Museum of Underwater Archaeology (MUA) is pleased to announce the launching of our latest project, Japanese Wooden Boats in Woodblock Prints: A Research Project Journal by East Carolina University graduate student Michelle Damian. The journal will explore the process of conducting graduate research as Michelle begins her examination of Japanese ship construction and the roles of vernacular watercraft as depicted in late Edo-period (1603 - 1867) art. This innovative project is an attempt to make use of the collaborative nature of the Internet. It is an invitation to a world wide audience to contribute to the exchange of materials and ideas. Upcoming features in her journal will include interactive examinations of artwork and online tools for the submission of images, comments, and other media.
You can find the first posting by going to the journal here: http://www.uri.edu/artsci/his/mua/project_journals/pj.html and select View the Journal.
We hope you all enjoy this latest offering from the MUA.
Best regards,
T Kurt Knoerl
