If it's a common type piece, not an art piece, a good reference might be, "A
Guide to Artifacts of Colonial America" by Ivor Noel Hume (University of
Pennsylvania press). Since you're in NC, Williamsburg, VA is probably not too
far away, and I would think would have someone who could identify your
piece. If it's 18th Century it's likely European. We don't get a lot of 18th
Century pottery in western Missouri where I'm at, so I don't think I would be
much help.
