About the organization: PRI's Museum of the Earth is a major new natural
history exhibits and education facility in Ithaca, NY dedicated to high
quality education on the history of the Earth and its life. The
Paleontological Research Institution (PRI), founded in 1932, is a dynamic
fast-moving institution with one of the largest research collections of
fossils in North America and an active education program. PRI has been
affiliated with Cornell University since 2004.
About the open position: Oversee and manage all activity in the Exhibits
Department, including but not necessarily limited to: project management of
permanent and changing exhibits in the Museum of the Earth; management of
the continuity of display images, graphics, color, and sound within the
overall aesthetic of the Museum; maintenance and upgrade of permanent
exhibits in the Museum; design, fabrication, and installation of temporary
exhibits in the Museum; long-term planning and budgets for all exhibits in
the Museum, including working with other staff to seek external funding for
temporary exhibits; design, fabrication, and installation of occasional
off-site exhibits; supervision of all full- and part-time staff in the
Department; relationship management of outside vendors; work with other
staff on research and development of temporary traveling exhibitions; work
with other staff on evaluations for permanent and temporary exhibits; work
with staff in the Education Department to integrate exhibits in the Museum
with educational programs.
The successful candidate will have: a masters degree (or equivalent
experience) in museum studies, design, or other relevant discipline;
demonstrated leadership ability as well as willingness to work as a
proactive part of a team; expertise in creatively taking ideas, concepts,
solution-options, and adapting them to innovative solutions to operational
problems; ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings,
taking into account the differences in social, cultural, professional, and
educational backgrounds of the audience; ability to prioritize workload and
manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision;
experience in preparation, management, and presentation of budgets;
demonstrated experience in project management.
