NATURE OF WORK IN THIS CLASS
Responsible for assisting in the coordination of the National History Day in Ohio program. The Assistant Coordinator assists in the administration of the History Day program at the district and state levels, and provides assistance at the national level.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Provides administrative support to the National History Day in Ohio program, including database management informational mailings. Provides program support to the National History Day in Ohio program through conducting workshops, compiling mailings and maintaining the web site. Present teacher and student workshops. Update and maintain current information and resources for teachers, students, and parents on the Ohio History Day web site. Assist in state participation at the national event. Assist in the development of teaching materials. Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Skills and abilities that allow for effective communication with young people, teaching professionals, business and community interests, and the general public. Requires budget preparation and monitoring skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. An ability to manage multiple tasks, responsibilities, and projects.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Normal range of hearing, speech, and sight to communicate with varied audiences and staff; to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate materials and reports. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, and other typical office equipment. May require prolonged standing, sitting, stooping, bending, or twisting. Requires lifting items up to 50 pounds occasionally.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office/educational setting. Involves frequent travel in state, and occasionally out-of-state. Involves frequent contact with school administrators, teachers, and students statewide. Days and hours of work and location of work may vary to accommodate specific program and participant needs, and may require evenings, weekends, and holiday schedules.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in education, history, or related area or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of one to three years of program management experience working with young people.
