Hello list I am posting this message for a friend that
owns a framing gallery.
She is in the process of building a shadow box for a
customer. The shadow box will house antique
terracotta figurines. The customer would like the
boxes to be lit from the inside but the owner of the
gallery is concerned about heat. As an appraiser, I
am worried about conservation issues. I have been
told that LED lighting creates off gases that will
eventually fog the glass. It has been suggested that
she use flourescent under counter lighting and notch
the back of the foam core to let the cord come out.
However, the customer was hoping for a battery
operated light and I am worried about the effects that
the bulb will have on the terracotta.
Any suggestions, advice, or experience is much
appreciated. You may reply to me on or off the list.
Thank you
Christian Trabue
