Public Broadcasters, Museums, and Libraries to Hold Videoconference on
Collaboration --NewsHour's Ray Suarez to Emcee--
WASHINGTON, DC-The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the
Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced today that
the Partnership for a Nation of Learners will sponsor a national/local
Community Collaboration Videoconference on Wednesday, November 30
between 12:30 and 2:00 pm ET.
"Public broadcasters, libraries and museums have a unique ability to
connect people to their communities, and communities to the resources,
ideas, and knowledge that they need to solve problems," Patricia
Harrison, President and CEO of CPB said. "Through this videoconference,
public broadcasters, museums, and libraries will develop strategies to
address local concerns in tangible and valuable ways."
"More than 1,800 people from public broadcasting, libraries, museums and
other community-based organizations will participate in this
videoconference," noted Mary Chute, Acting Director of the Institute of
Museum and Library Services. "Such a high level of participation it
unprecedented. It is clear that these organizations can make a
tremendous difference in communities across the country."
The November 30 Community Collaboration Videoconference is designed to
introduce the ideas behind the Partnership for a Nation of Learners
(PNL) initiative, including why collaboration is a critical skill in a
changing information environment; discuss the PNL program, and its grant
and professional development resources; and help local groups begin to
talk about how they might work together to solve pressing needs in their
communities.
Seventy public television stations will downlink the PBS-fed
videoconference and will host local museums, libraries, public radio
stations and other community organizations in their studios. (Find the
full list of host sites at http://www.partnershipforlearners.org.) The
videoconference will be produced at WETA-TV in Arlington, Virginia, and
will feature Ray Suarez, Senior Correspondent for The Newshour with Jim
Lehrer, as the national host.
