The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston seeks an enthusiastic and
organized Assistant Registrar to join its team. The ICA, one of the
nation’s oldest contemporary art institutions, is building a new museum on
Boston’s waterfront. Projected to open in fall of 2006, the new facility
will dramatically increase the exhibition space and allow the ICA to build
a permanent collection. The Assistant Registrar will assist the Senior
Registrar in the management of the permanent collection and facilitation
of exhibition loans. The Assistant Registrar will be responsible for a
broad range of registration functions such as developing and maintaining
the collections database (TMS); generating loan agreements, crate lists,
packing and condition reports; securing certificates of insurance;
organizing the crating, transportation and storage of artworks, and
maintaining the ICA’s extensive exhibition archive.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Art History or Museum Studies; M.A.
and/or Museum Studies certificate preferred. Excellent organization,
communication and computer skills are required; knowledge of TMS is
desirable. Experience with fine arts packing, shipping, handling and
condition reporting desirable. Must be detail oriented, flexible, work
well under pressure and be able to effectively meet concurrent deadlines.
Must also be willing to work flexible hours when necessary. Position
available October 1, 2005. Salary low 30s & excellent benefits.
