Thank you so much to all of you who kindly responded to my plea for
help in identifying the Sphinx-related work of art. Everyone who replied
pointed me towards _Rest on the Flight Into Egypt_ by Luc Olivier Merson.
Although I did not remember the animals milling about the picture and
although I thought it was an engraving, this is clearly what I was thinking
of, as I recalled that the sleeping woman was wearing some Roman-looking
garb.
Whatever in the world did we do before the Internet and whatever in the
world would I do without the kind help of the members of this list? Thank
you very much!
