TITLE: Development Director
SALARY:$50,000 - $55,000
The Historic House Trust of New York City, Inc. (HHT) was founded in 1989 as
a private partner to the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation for
the preservation and promotion of historic house sites owned by New York
City and located in public parks. The Trust’s collection currently includes
22 historic sites throughout the five boroughs, such as Gracie Mansion, Van
Cortlandt House Museum and the Little Red Lighthouse. The Trust’s staff
provides technical and financial support to benefit these museums. HHT’s
annual budget is $1 million, approximately $400,000 from grants, $60,000
from individual contributions, $40,000 from member contributions and
$500,000 from events.
Responsibilities:
- Research and write proposals to foundation, government, individual and
corporate sources. Identify new prospects.
- Manage grants received, including acknowledgements, reports and donor
correspondence, using Raiser’s Edge software.
- Supervise Development Associate.
- Supervise solicitation, benefits and programs for 700-person membership.
- Coordinate annual appeal and bi-annual direct mail membership acquisition
campaign.
- Work with Board members and Director of Marketing & Special Events on
planning and execution of fundraising and individual cultivation events.
- Write quarterly newsletter.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree. Background in historic preservation a must. Minimum of
three year’s prior non-profit development experience. Excellent
organizational, writing and communication skills. Familiarity with Raiser’s
Edge, Word, Excel, Power Point or similar applications. NYS driver’s license
required.
