DESCRIPTION  
 
The National Museum of Health and Medicine (Otis Historical Archives) is
seeking applicants for Assistant Archivist. Responsibilities include
archival collection management, reference service, processing new
collections and writing finding aids. In cooperation with the Archivist:
Appraise, accession, and catalog new collections. Process and write
finding aids for collections. Catalog transfered Armed Forces Institute
of Pathology (AFIP) material and provide reference assistance to AFIP
departments. Maintain shelflist; coordinate storage of collections at
various locations at the museum and warehouse. Preserve and conserve
collection materials. Work with visiting researchers. Process written
and telephone research requests. Provide research support for exhibits
and other Museum divisiions. Supervise volunteers and interns. Serve on
relevant Museum committees. Participate in exhibit process. Contribute
to other Museum functions and projects as assigned. Available on or
after August 26, 2005.  

REQUIREMENTS  
M.A. in American history or library science or equivalent experience,
computer skills, and several years professional work experience,
preferably in a federal government or medical archives or museum
desired. Demonstrated responsibility for valuable collections preferred.
Relocation expenses are NOT covered.
