Laurel,
For a smaller institution, it is questionable how
successful such specific-time open houses might be.
The policy at Pittsburgh's original Buhl Planetarium
and Institute of Popular Science was to admit teachers
and clergy [upon proper identification]
free-of-charge, whenever they chose to come. This
courtesy was also extended to police officers and the
active military.
This might be a better strategy for a smaller museum.
You could publicize this policy to teachers, and
perhaps ask that they call or e-mail ahead so the
staff knows they are coming.
