Well, in my days as a dinosaur nut I seem to recall that dinosaurs are divided into two main families by the shape of their hips. Most of the dinos in the one family were carnivores while most of the dinosaurs in the other family were herbivores. I'm not sure what impact hip shape could have on egg shape, but I'd be willing to bet there's a relation.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] A question about dinosaur eggs
I attended AAM last week and spent some time at the Indianapolis Children's Museum Dinosphere exhibit (retrofitted giant screen venue).
One of the displays showed eggs of herbivore dinosaurs (spherical eggs) and carnivore dinosaurs (elongated eggs). Nowhere did they explain the shape difference. Anybody got the answer?
Thanks
