Hi everyone, to avoid any abuse of the list, also for people not interested
in this topic, I hope that it is better that I will put together all the
emails of person interested to the topic in terms of new ideas, comments and
people ask me to be involved in this future committee.
We will create a working group where to discuss about, without post every
time to the entire list.
We will communicate to the list relevant steps or we will submit to the list
more general questions on the Young Group proposal and relative "manifesto".
Without any relevant news from this workgroup we will send every week a post
to the list to remember that we still work on this topic, so people in
holiday or new subscribed to the list can have the right information.
Please, who are interested to join the workgroup send an email to my
personal address or at any one in the workgroup.
I remember to whom will subscribe in the last days that all discussions
about this topic are in the list archive

better understand the original concept.
I hope this help to moderate the list traffic
I also hope to receive more adhesions to the workgroup also from other list
where I post the original ideas (AAM/PRAM, AFRICOM, ICOM-L, Musei-It)

ORIGINAL POST, august 5 2005
------
A proposal to create youth groups.
Iıd like to put forward the idea of creating youth groups of ICOM
associates.
This idea stems from the fact that many under-40 colleagues that I met all
over the world donıt feel part of ICOM and maybe are not enough involved in
it, although they are very fond of museums.
The world of museums itself needs renewing. We especially need to encourage
young professionals and give them operational jobs/positions.
How many young people are ICOMıs members? How many of them do actually take
part in the activities of the various National Committees?
Following the path of many associations in the world, such as, primarily,
the various club services (Rotary, Lions etc), why donıt create youth groups
within ICOM, with the task, among the others, of involving other young
colleagues?
In order to be effective, national groups (inside National Committees)
should be implemented at least at an earlier stage, in order to promote
co-operation on a territorial base. At a later stage, an international youth
group or committee might be also implemented.
I strongly believe that young people may become a vehicle for ICOM and the
world of museums, provided that we trust them and get them truly involved.
