Does anyone else find it ironic that while this whole issue is being
discussed on [MUSEUM-L] that [ARCHIVE-L] posts the news article...
** Smithsonian Inundated With Leaks
So far, "structural deterioration" and "chronic leaks" have closed
some buildings, restricted access to others and damaged some
collections, the report says
**
The director could have easily come up with a thousand excuses that
very legally disillusion the contract. Instead, an "Unitelligent
Design" has been approved to allow "Privileged People" to "make a
positive vision of the future practical" (this last quote is the
Discovery Institute's mission statement.)
A MOVIE CAN PLAYED ANYWHERE - IT DOESN"T HAVE TO BE DONE AT NMNH!!!!!
I hope the people involved get fired for being stupid
I hope the movie sucks
and I hope the building takes a leak on the audience.

> Statement by the Director, National Museum of Natural History
>
> The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History recently approved a
> request by the Discovery Institute to hold a private, invitation-only
> screening and reception at the Museum on June 23 for the film "The
> Privileged Planet." Upon further review we have determined that the content
> of the film is not consistent with the mission of the Smithsonian
> Institution's scientific research. Neither the Smithsonian Institution nor
> the National Museum of Natural History supports or endorses the Discovery
> Institute or the film "The Privileged Planet." However, since Smithsonian
> policy states that all events held at any museum be "co-sponsored" by the
> director and the outside organization, and we have signed an agreement with
> this organization, we will honor the commitment made to provide space for
> the event.
