Job Description for:
Archivist/Librarian
History and Archives and Education, AAO-HNSF
Part-time (28 hours/week;
20 hrs/week, Dept of History and Archives; 8 hrs/week, Dept of Education)
Non-Exempt
Reporting Structure
The Archivist/Librarian reports to the Director, Department of History and
Archives. For tasks relating to the NROSG and Digital Image Library,
Archivist/Librarian reports to the Senior Manager for Online Learning,
Department of Education.
Qualifications
Masters degree in library science or related field preferred. Minimum of
a BA required. At least 2 years experience with library and archival
collections required. Experience with cataloging and electronic databases
as well as creation of archival finding aids. Understanding of MeSH and
medical terminology. Knowledge of copyright issues and preservation
standards. Understanding of metadata and digitization projects. Ability
to work independently and complete work successfully with minimal
supervision. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Background
in history a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Manage research library and rare book collection.
Manage institutional archive and loans of archival material.
Complete all data entry for the National Resident Online Study
Guide (NROSG) and the AAO-HNSF's Digital Image Library and catalog all
images in the AAO-HNSF's Digital Image Library according to MeSH.
Specific Duties
Oversee the archive, library, and cataloging.
Ensure proper storage of archival and library materials.
Serve as staff and public contact answering research questions.
Manage the oral history program.
Assist in the development of strategies for increasing public
access to collections.
Solicit donations.
Assist in the development of exhibits and monitor the storage
areas.
Work with the Department of Education to complete data entry for
the National Resident Online Study Guide (NROSG), including researching
the PubMed ID numbers for references within the NROSG.
Work with the Department of Education to complete data entry and
assignment of MeSH terms to images in the AAO-HNSF's Digital Image Library.
May participate on an internal team, either through formal
assignment, or on an ad hoc basis.
Consistently demonstrate courteous, cooperative and helpful
behavior to all contacts, internal and external.
