The Fairfield Historical Society seeks an organized museum professional to fulfill the position of
Assistant Registrar. The primary responsibility will be to work closely with an experienced Project
Registrar in executing a collections move from the Society’s existing headquarters to the newly
constructed Fairfield Museum and History Center. Duties include but are not limited to assisting
with inventorying, photographing and packing artifacts, archival and library materials in the
Society’s collection under the direction of the Registrar. The Assistant Registrar will also work
with the Registrar to oversee the installation of storage units, track and maintain security of the
collection as it is packed and moved, and unpack the museum collection in the new museum and
off-site storage location. This is a 16-month, $2000 per month position, to begin by Nov. 2006
with potential for continuing.
Requirements:
MA in Museum Studies or related field and a demonstrated commitment through internships and
coursework to the field of collections management; excellent time management, organizational,
oral/written communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; ability to manage multiple
priorities; familiarity with Filemaker Pro and digital photography equipment is desirable. Normal
ability to climb ladders and lift 25 pounds required.
