I am a graduate student in anthropology and museum
studies in Milwaukee and would simply love to be an
active part of such a group. Being an aspiring museum
professional in today's world is so exciting, what
with the new definition of museums, the new degree of
professionalism, and new levels of cultural
sensitivity and indigenous incentive in the museum
world. As a graduate student devoted to combining her
academic interests with a museum environment, and as
someone who grew up in another country (Germany) and
is always searching for ways to broaden her museum
experiences and involvement on an international level,
being an active part of such a group would be
extremely beneficial to me.
One main motive of an ICOM youth group should be to
inform grad students of museum conferences going on
nationally and internationally and to help find ways
to gain funding so more students can attend and be
active in these conferences that are SO integral at
this early stage in our careers. I'm not sure I'd use
the term "youth" in the name, however. I would prefer
"young professionals" or "students".
Whoever wants to take on this project, please keep me
informed and let me know how I can be involved.
