But if you're using a database, don't forget to do it "1850 ca." so the numbers will sort correctly!

Having recently returned to grad school, I am finding ca. more and more.
I think that c. is still acceptable, but I believe ca. Is preferred since c.
also can stand for century (as in 19th c.).
I don't think that helps, but its a shot!
