CARE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC MATERIALS
Photographic materials present significant preservation concern in
library and archival collections. They are often heavily used, and are
fragile and susceptible to damage due to improper storage conditions.

photographic collections that provide protection and access. Examples of
housing supplies, photographic materials, and deteriorated photographs
will be provided. Class format is primarily lecture with ample time for
questions.
Among the topics covered:

PRESERVATION OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS
Does your institution display or create digital photographs? Without
active preservation, these images may not be accessible in the future,
due to changes in technology. This one-day class is an introduction to
the nature of digital images and their various formats, as well as
maintenance and storage methods. Elements of project management will be
covered, including a look at current digital preservation policies and
standard best practices. This class will help participants organize
digital photograph collections, and help them develop strategies for
preserving those collections through computer upgrades, disasters, and
changing technological demands.
Intended Audience: Anyone working with a digital photograph collection
or hoping to start one.
Location and Time: Southeastern Library Network, Atlanta, GA, Thursday,
June 9th, 9am to 4pm.
