Hi Christie,
I am curious why you want to combine these two different things. Not knowing
what software you use for the database, if you were to do a search for
"vase," will it search across all fields? Or do you have to search in a
particular field where "vase" may show up (for example an object name
field), or may not show up (a title field). Again, with no knowledge on your
type of collections or the database, it seems that a good way to distinguish
between an official name and a created name is to have two separate fields.
I will soon be starting a collections database, so I am curious what others
think...

Subject: Distinguishing between official names and created names
Hello Everyone:
In my database, I have objects which have official names created by the
artist but I also have
names created for the object such as "tall vase with green leaves." I want
to combine "object
name" with "title" thus getting rid of the "object name" category in my
database. My question is
how do you recommend that I distinguish between a official name and a
created name in the
database so the viewer won't think that "tall vase with green leaves" is
what the artist named it?
Thank you
