Hi Kim,
I would think that the destruction should be complete enough so that the
piece could never be repaired, reassembled or restored. For a work on
paper it might mean shredding. For a painting or a wood sculpture it
might mean incineration. For a ceramic sculpture I would think that
pulverizing it with a sledge hammer should suffice and photographing the
remains for the insurance company's benefit. For someone like me who
makes their living preserving and carefully handling objects, I think
this
would be quite fun!
