The Smithsonian (AMNH) is leading a project to document the bracero
program and is working with museums, historic sites, etc. that have
collections and documents related to the program.  I saw a presentation
about the project this spring at the Smithsonian Affiliates conference.
It was a fascinating presentation and I'm sure if you contact the
Affiliates office they could put you in touch with someone from the
project.

We are working on a project documenting bracero history and would like

know if any institution has collections related to these Mexican

agricultural laborers of the 1940's through the 1960's.  We are seeking
collections of photos, clothing, tools, papers, housing or anything

to the field workers or growers of the period.

The bracero program consisted of a series of bi-lateral agreements
between
Mexico and the United States between 1942 and 1964, enabling millions of
Mexican men to come to the United States to work on short-term labor
contracts. It had a significant impact on communities in Mexico and the
U.S., on immigration, and bilateral relations, and on labor.
