Good evening, MuseumLer's - Please remember that the mothball reek is also a
human health hazard. Make sure that there is lots of air circulation/change
(hazard reduced due to dilution) and that when you handle the footlocker
that you are wearing nitrile gloves. The gloves are immediately thown away
after a single use and not used handling anything else.
>>Tried and true -Place one or two opened boxes of baking soda in the trunk
for a few days. After that, if you can -set it outside for a little while to
air out. You may want to put some fabric softener sheets in the trunk for a
few days after that. Also, even before doing any of this - you may be able to
gently wipe the interior with a slightly dampened cloth and a little lysol
detergent.>>
>I have a complete military footlocker that we want to
put out on display but it reeks of moth balls. I was hoping someone would
have a good way a getting the smell out. I have tried Febreze and was
wondering if maybe there is something better like letting it just air out
or using charcoal. Any suggestions would be great. I know many of us have
had this problem.>
