Hi Devon,
Digital watermarking seems to be trendy -- but, quite frankly in my
humble opinion, expensive and useless.
The Best Method?
Drop the resolution to 72 dpi and restrict the image size to no larger
than 4" x 4" (height x width), or 6" x 6" if you are brave and daring.
LOL! This makes the image useless for commercial product development
(ie., mugs, posters, T-shirts), but still good enough for students to
download for school projects (which falls under fair use as an
educational endeavor) -- even though they should ask permission first!
An Obstacle to Downloading:
You can disable right-click capabilities on your web site (or select
pages) . . . but some of us know how to get around that. ;-)
Crude Alternative:
Place a 10%-15% opaque copyright symbol with the name of the institution
or artist diagonally across the image. But, it is crude, interferes
with the image, and can -- with Adobe Photoshop or comparable software
-- be erased with the Healing Brush Tool, patience and a steady hand.
Best wishes, sincerely,
