Internship Announcement: Please distribute!
Summer Collections Interns, Historic Locust Grove
Historic Locust Grove, a 1790 historic farm in Louisville, Kentucky, is
seeking two collections management interns for the summer of 2005 to
assist with projects in computerizing the collection (using PastPerfect)
and in researching the collection.
Interns will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of
collections objects, from textiles to farm equipment to fine early
Kentucky furniture, and will work closely with staff and volunteers.
Interns will also conduct research in estate inventories held at the
county courthouse, and analyze them for comparable examples to guide
future collections use and planning. Interns will work under the
supervision of the site's Executive Director.
Interns should be currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a
graduate-level program in Museum Studies, with some familiarity and
training in collections handling and in computerized collections
records. Familiarity with American history of the period from 1790 to
1850 is also desirable.
Each intern will receive a stipend of $1500 for 6 weeks, based on a
35-hour week. Assistance with transportation costs to and from
Louisville may be available. Interns will need to supply their own local
transportation. Housing is not provided, but we will try to assist you
in finding local accommodations if needed.
