You may want to check with the Jewish Museum of Florida
(http://www.jewishmuseum.com/)
The museum is housed in the former synagogue of Congregation Beth Jacob
(if I remember the name correctly). Meir Lansky was a member of this
congregation in the 1950s or 60s. While this is Miami Beach, there were
many links with New York. There's also a movie (drama? docudrama?) on
Lanski, the title of which I cannot think of right now . . . Quite a few
books have been written on the topic as well . . .
