Dear Stephanie,
Ten years ago, I acquired a huge collection infested with silverfish. After
much research and talking to pest control people and conservators, I decided
that freezing the collection was the safest for the mixed materials and for
the staff to handle it in the future, and the most effective in dealing with
the silverfish and any additional pests.
Contact conservators you trust, and check out this website:

Subject: Pest Infestation
We are acquiring a large collection that is known to be infested with
brown recluse spiders. It has been suggested that the artifacts be
treated with a chemical that is the crystalline form of common moth
balls. Does anyone have a better, less toxic method for dealing with
spiders?
