Mary, talk to the folks at Biltmore House. They have cleaned huge rugs
and tapestries.

Subject: Cleaning Heavy Canvas
Has anyone cleaned heavily soiled canvas? On the Battleship NORTH
CAROLINA
we have large artifacts made from canvas, such as a seabag and a
stretcher/litter. They have been found-on-board are very dirty, greasy,
etc. I have vacuumed them and am considering washing them in a large tub
with Orvus. The pieces are in good condition. Anyone with experience
working with large textiles? Thanks. Mary Ames Sheret, Curator of
Collections, Battleship NORTH CAROLINA, Wilmington, NC.
