It depends on what you are comfortable with. Many individuals (including
myself) who feel quite comfortable with technology assume that they can
breeze through an online course rather easily, but it is a BIG shift to go
from a face-to-face interaction to one done entirely on-line. If you are a
highly social person, you may feel very isolated during the course. Be
prepared for a LOT of reading. Some studies I have seen show that an on-line
course requires as much as 50% more reading, and on average, 33% more time
than would be spent attending and preparing for a traditional class.

It is certainly more convenient, but can require some trade-off's.

Has anyone taken an on-line course? There are several now available
related to museum collections management, etc. and I was wondering what
the pros and cons have been for people.

Obviously, the "comfort of your own home" could be a big plus.
