The deadline to apply to this year's Museum Institute at Sagamore, sponsored
by the Upstate History Alliance, has been extended to AUGUST 1st!! The
Institute is open to staff from any museum or historical organization in New
York State.
This year's Institute focuses on Ideas and Interpretation. It is designed
for curators, educators and others who are charged with the development of
interpretive exhibitions and materials. Our terrific line-up of speakers
includes James Gardner of the Smithsonian, Nancy Villa Bryk of the Henry
Ford, independent historian and curator Christopher Clarke, Liselle
LaFrance of Historic Cherry Hill, Catherine Schoweffermann of the Roberson
Museum and Science Center and evaluation specialist Letitia Doggett.
The Institute will include topics such as Building Collections for
Interpretation, Developing Meaningful Interactives, Working with
Communities to Mount Difficult Exhibitions, Managing Interpretive Change and
Introduction to Evaluation.
For six years, the Institute at Sagamore has brought together staff from New
York's museums with talented and engaging museum professionals from across
the country to learn, discuss, network and engage with issues of concern.
The Institute is held at Great Camp Sagamore, a National Historic Landmark
in the Adirondacks.
The institute will be held 28-October 1, 2004, with participation limited to
20 people. The Institute continues to be an extremely affordable training
opportunity: the fee for the institute, including all lodging and meals, is
only $300; Go grants are available to support institute attendance.
