...when I see typos and mistakes in someone's correspondence (or resume), I
wonder if they're as careless in other aspects of their work.
or makes one wonder how they even completed the degree/s in the first place.
it's living proof of the level of the current educational system and what
they will graduate.

All other qualifications being equal, I will always hire the person who has
accurate spelling and punctuation. A lot of museum work involves writing,
whether it's correspondence with the public, exhibit text, or articles for
scholarly publications. It may seem like a minor thing, but when I see
typos and mistakes in someone's correspondence (or resume), I wonder if
they're as careless in other aspects of their work.
