John,

My first question would be; Why are you removing these photos from their
album?  The album is part of the original artefact as is the original order
of the photos in the album.

If there is a strong need to remove the images I would suggest contacting a
photo conservator (The American Institute for Conservation has a website and
can recommend conservators in your area.

Over the years I have taught a number of workshops on preserving old
photographs and their original order and housing (including old albums that
wouldn't meet modern archival standards) are part of their history and often
as important to preserve as the photographs.
