The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation is offering training and networking for museum and preservation professionals during the Annual Preservation Conference & Membership Meeting March 31 through April 3 in Thomasville, Georgia.
The majority of the training sessions being held on Friday, April 1. Here is a sampling of the sessions being offered on Friday and Saturday:

> 8:00 a.m.
> Continental Breakfast
> Thomasville Cultural Center
> 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
> Opening Conference Plenary
> Participants in the 2005 Georgia Preservation Conference are invited to check in, pick up their packets and programs, and hear a preservation update from John Nau, chairman of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. The Advisory Council is an independent Federal agency whose mission is to promote the preservation, enhancement, and productive use of our Nation's historic resources, and advise the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy. Mr. Nau will present an update on how the Council is promoting the value and benefit of historic preservation through it> '> s many outreach efforts, including Preserve America.
> 10:15 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
> Insuring Historic Buildings will highlight issues associated with securing proper insurance coverage for historic sites. Brian Phoebus, program director for National Trust Insurance Services, will highlight the various programs developed to meet preservation insurance needs, including coverage for property, restoration, special events, and volunteers and directors liability. This session will be of interest to non-profit organizations, investors, developers and private homeowners.
> 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
> New Georgia, New Collaborations
> Discuss how large and small historic sites can be part of the heritage tourism industry. Tourism is Georgia> '> s second largest industry behind Agribusiness, generating $16.1 billion per year and accounting for approximately $645 million in tax revenues. This session will discuss > "> product development> "> and will include recommendations from operators of attractions, historic sites, tours, hotels and restaurants on how we can collaborate to increase heritage tourism in Georgia.
> 3:15 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
> Conference Field Sessions
> Heritage Tourism-Thomasville Black History Heritage Trail Field Session will use architecture, documents and oral traditions to show how African Americans contributed to Thomasville> '> s heritage, including helping to establish the city. The field session, created by The Jack Hadley Black History Memorabilia, is a step on, step off tour with transportation provided. Space is limited and there is a fee to attend. > 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
> New Member & First-time Rambler Reception at Thomasville Cultural Center
> 600 East Washington Street
> New Members, First-time Ramblers and State Preservation Conference attendees who want to become new members are invited to this former 1915 Eastside Elementary School. Restored in 1986 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building is now used locally for art exhibits and theatrical and musical productions.

> Dinner at Pebble Hill Plantation
> U.S. 319 South
> Georgia Trust members and Preservation Conference attendees will have the chance to rub elbows at the exquisite Pebble Hill Plantation. Established in the 1820s by Thomas Jefferson Johnson, the founder of Thomas County, the plantation features not only the main house-built in the 1930s after the previous home was virtually destroyed by fire-but also more than a dozen outbuildings, gardens and stables. Hop on an escorted wagon and tour the grounds, stroll through the main house or join in a mini-tour to learn all about the African-American heritage efforts at the plantation.>

> Thomasville Orientation, The Georgia Trust Annual Meeting, State of Preservation in Georgia and the 2005 Georgia Preservation Awards
> Representatives from Thomasville and Thomas County will be on hand to acquaint us with local history and highlights of the weekend. Greg Paxton, The Georgia Trust president and CEO, and Dr. Ray Luce, Georgia deputy state historic preservation officer, will provide updates on the State of Preservation in Georgia. Help us recognize those who have reclaimed the past and revitalized Georgia> '> s communities at the 2005 Georgia Preservation Awards.

> Downtown Thomasville
> Enjoy downtown Thomasville, with tents set up near the courthouse for dinner. Shop for a unique gift with local flavor at one of the retail shops and stroll through downtown lofts open exclusively for attendees.
