You should contact the Colonial Williamsburg landscape dept. They have been
using marl (oyster shell) pathways for years and can give you a very precise
idea of its performance and associated costs. They have extensive experience and
have been researching options for road surfaces that have light vehicular
traffic and carriages with iron-shod tires (the iron tires wear down the road,
particularly in the summer heat).
