Hi all,
We have a new permanent exhibit on Vermont's history that opened in March.
We have the opportunity, through the state Commission on Women and their new
Women's History Project, to create "something" to reinforce or emphasize
the stories of women as featured within the exhibit. This piece would
enhance the exhibit experience. We have not yet decided if we should do
something for the general public/family audience or for students, or both
(depending on funding, time, etc.).
Some of the early ideas we have considered are a "gallery guide" with
supplemental interpretation, questions, a bibliography, etc., a family pack
of in-gallery activities, or some sort of scavenger hunt. For school group
materials, we thought about creating some pre- and post- visit activities
or a special women-focused tour for our docents to present.
I hope that whatever form this takes might become a "template" that we could
use to take on other themes and elements of Vermont's history using our
exhibit.
I am seeking information and advice from those of you who have created
thematic materials that supplement a permanent exhibit (focused on women's
history or otherwise). What form did these pieces take? Have they been
successful?
