The Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies announces the
following extended registration deadlines:
"Matting Workshop"

This four-day workshop is intended to provide participants with
hands-on experience in museum matting and archival storage of
works of art on paper.
"Care of Book Collections"
Instructor: Susan Russick
Date: September 20 - 23, 2004
Registration deadline: September 7
This four-day course in the care of bound volumes is designed for
museum curatorial staff and library preservation managers, who are
responsible for book collections, whether on exhibit or as part of a
research collection, but who have little or no experience with the
technical aspects of book structure and materials. The emphasis will
be on leather, cloth, and paper bindings from the 19th and 20th
centuries. The course will cover the range of problems most often
encountered, and will discuss a variety of currently accepted solutions.
"Care of Oversize Paper Artifacts"
Instructor: Mary Todd Glaser
Date: September 27 - 29, 2004
Registration deadline: September 13
This three-day course is intended to assist curators, librarians, and
archivists in addressing the care of oversize and unusual paper
materials, including maps, posters, architectural drawings and plans,
large volumes, wallpapers, and globes.
Please Note: $300 Scholarships from the National Endowment for the
Humanities are available for all the above courses.
Course fees include accommodations and some meals.

The Campbell Center is a mid-career training facility for professionals in
the Historic Preservation, Collections Care, and Conservation fields.
Located in Northwestern Illinois, on the campus of the former Shimer
College, the Center is about 3 hours west of Chicago. Shuttle service is
available from Rockford, Illinois. Bus connections are available from
Chicago's O'Hare airport to Rockford. Details are available from the
