Baltimore Museum of Industry
Position: Collections Manager (18-month position)
Reports to: Collections and Research Director
Supervises: Collections volunteers/interns (3+) on a project-by-project
basis
Job Description: A full-time position that will work closely with
the Collections and Research Director to reconcile past collections
management systems and plan and implement a new course for the management
of the BMI’s artifact, archival, and library collections.
Hours: Full-time. Generally Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Some
evenings and weekends required.
Responsibilities:
• Work with the Collections and Research Director and other
Collections staff to implement directives from the Museum’s Strategic Plan.
• Evaluate status of Museum’s record-keeping system and create
innovative solutions for a new system.
• Establish, carry out, and maintain systems for accessioning,
deaccessioning, and other collections management functions.
• Inventory, rehouse, and assist with move of collections in to and
out of BMI warehouses.
• Develop and supervise collections management projects for
volunteers and interns.
• Reconcile documentation with actual objects.
• Assist Collections and Research Director and Development Director
with grant-writing initiatives.
• Assist with the development and installation of exhibits as needed.
• Other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
• Four-year degree required. Masters degree preferred.
• 3-5 years experience in collections management or registrarial role
with strong computer skills.
• Proven success in implementing or managing large collections
projects.
• Able to be innovative, flexible, and have fun while still
maintaining attention to details.
