Hi Tom et al.:

I agree there is a difference between not-for-profit web sites (Museum
Security Network, Indigo/Gayle, etc.) and for-profit services.

I beg to differ with your conclusion:

        > Still, all 2500 plus subscribers on Museum-L must
        > realize that they are responsible for the quality of
        > the list, and must be attentive not to make this list
        > another Hide Park Speakers' Corner.

The quality of the list? Must Museum-L strive for "ubermensch " status?
We are people, and people have common and divergent views. That's why
Museum-L -- and places like Hyde Park's Speaker's Corner -- exist!
People can voice their opinions. Discussion and debate is valuable . .
. can help give new perspective, keep complacency at bay, and inspire
creative solutions. David and I seem to be raising some interesting
though divergent points in our current playful exchange about Leonardo
da Vinci . . . which may or may not be of interest to others. Maybe
nobody else cares to participate, and that's fine, too. (BTW, a special
"shout out" to David for engaging in wonderfully stimulating
discussion!)

The official "Purpose" of Museum-L is:

        "Museum-L is a general purpose, cross-disciplinary
electronic discussion list for museum professionals,
students, and all others interested in museum related
issues. All museum related topics are acceptable for
posting and discussion at this time. Membership in
Museum-L is open to anyone with e-mail service."
        [See: http://www.finalchapter.com/museum-l-faq/#purpose]

While Tom and others may not feel that disabilities and diabetes,
politics and persimmons have anything to do with museums . . . that
attitude is naive. Museums are about inspired thinking, about human
production and consumption, about PEOPLE. So, stick with the golden
rule of list serves: Delete/ignore messages that are not of personal
interest.

Best wishes, sincerely,
