I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on how lack of parking has
impacted visitation to their museum. We are expecting to lose all or part
of our parking lot in the next 1-2 years due to the construction of a new
building at Yale. The alternative for us will be to share a parking garage
several blocks away from the museum that will have limited space for
musuem visitors. I would like to hear from anyone who may have had a
similar experience where their parking was eliminated or reduced or who
currently do not have enough parking for the number of visitors that come
to the museum. Has anyone done a study on how the lack of parking impacted
their visitation numbers? Does anyone feel that many of their visitors
would not come to their museum if they did not have adequate parking? Our
current lot has 40 spaces and there is very limited street parking. On the
weekends more street parking is available and we have access to the Yale
employee lots as well. Unfortunately, when this building is constructed
the Yale employee lots will also be gone and they too will have to park in
the garage located several blocks away. Most of our visitors are families
with young children and about 75% of our visitors come by car.
I would appreciate any input.
Sincerely,
Patricia Brunetto
